Just Plain FAKE
Fakes are becoming a real problem with McCoy Collectors.  Although veteran collectors will have a better idea about what is fake and what isn't, new collectors are  having a much harder time distinguishing a fake from a real McCoy.

Fakes differ from reproductions in that  a fake has NEVER been produced by the original company.   These fakes, bearing the McCoy logo, can be found in abundance at online sites like eBay Auction and other online retail stores.

Nothing will replace educating yourself to know what items were and were NOT made by McCoy Pottery.  In an effort to help collectors identify these fakes, we have created this site.  Please note, ONLY fakes are shown here.  Reproductions can be found on our reproduction site.  If you have any additional information on any of the pieces below, know where they are being produced,  or if you know of any additional McCoy fakes, please

Cookie jars have been hit hard by the fake market.  There are MANY fake cookie jars out there.  We encourage you to visit the following sites:
frog.jpg (13704 bytes) Frog Wall Pocket - Measures 6 1/2" tall.  Marked on the back "McCoy USA".  The letters are very thin, as though they were penciled in the original mold.   Piece is nicely done, but still lacks the characteristics that make McCoy so popular.  All McCoy frogs have a "look" about them that is similar.  They have sharp, pointed fingers & toes, bulging eyes, etc.  This one does not have that "look" that we all love!
shell.jpg (13710 bytes) Shell Wall Pocket - Interesting piece.  The marking of "McCoy" on the back sure looks real!  Unfortunately, these people are getting better and better at making these fakes look real.  I believe this mold is similar to a Hull mold.  Not surprising, the person this was purchased from, was also selling Hull reproductions.  It measures 7 7/8" long.
shawneebirdwp.jpg (13315 bytes) Cornucopia with Bird Wall Pocket - This piece appears to be made from the mold of a Shawnee Wall Pocket.  It was originally made by Shawnee Pottery with NO mark, but now bears the marking, "McCoy USA"  Click here for more details!
lgshoe.jpg (16118 bytes) Victorian Ladies Shoe - Two sizes are being produced.
Large - Measures 9 1/4" tall x 9 1/2" from toe to heel.  It has been seen in several different colors.  Marked on the bottom "McCoy" on the inner arch of the bottom of the shoe.  Marking under glaze.
Mini - Measures 3 3/8" tall by 2 7/8" from toe to heel.  Several colors have been seen.  Marked on the BALL of the foot McCoy.  Marking very crude, and appears to have been "scratched" into the shoe AFTER firing.
