McCoy
Little Red Riding Hood Cookie Jar
"This belonged to my Grandmother many years ago." "I bought this several years ago at an estate auction of a 90 year old woman who collected cookie jars." These are just SOME of the descriptions you will find with this jar. But......Buyer Beware!
Marked McCoy and covered with a craze that would normally represent years of aging gracefully, these FAKE Little Red Riding Hood Cookie Jars were specifically made to fool uneducated collectors! |

| With all these really old
looking fakes out there, how can you tell the difference between the
fake and real McCoy Little Red Riding Hood Cookie Jar?
Actually, there is no need to. The Nelson McCoy Pottery in Roseville, Ohio, NEVER MADE a Little Red Riding Hood Cookie Jar. So EVERY McCoy LRRH (Little Red Riding Hood) Cookie Jar you see is a FAKE. This jar is actually a reproduction of the Hull LRRH Cookie Jar and was created by a man in Tennessee. As with most reproductions, there is a size discrepancy. The fake McCoy LRRH cookie jar measures only 12" tall, while the original Hull LRRH jar measures 12 3/4". Please note we say REPRODUCTION....but this is actually NOT a reproduction, as there was no original McCoy LRRH ever made. It is a FAKE McCoy and/or a reproduced Hull cookie jar. So.....how did this all happen? The original McCoy Pottery Company never copyrighted their trademark. Although the company was sold in 1985 to Ralph Porto, he did not register the name as a trademark until 1991, a year AFTER the company (then called Designer Accents) closed its doors in 1990. There is some confusion at this point as the name has also been regestered by several different people since 1990. But one thing is for sure. The original McCoy Pottery NEVER produced this piece.
