| It's
happened again! Another reproduction
has surfaced! Up until recently, NM
collector's have been fairly safe in presuming
that the pieces they find are originals.
Unfortunately, this isn't the case any more.
The NM fish flower holder
had already been copied, but that appeared to be
a reproduced on a smaller scale. Even
today, we have not seen swarms of them show up
on eBay. Well, unfortunately, this doesn't
appear to |
|
be the case with the NM
turtle. Sellers offering the NM turtle, are also
selling many of the other common reproduction
pieces......which only leads me to believe that more and
more of these will enter the market soon!
Therefore....COLLECTOR'S BEWARE!

The
people that are manufacturing these
reproductions and fakes are getting quite good
at it! They should be. They have had
a lot of practice lately. This miniature
turtle is NO exception. Without being able
to actually "see" it in person and
"feel" it, it is difficult to
determine if it is in fact a fake. |
|
|
| One
of the best ways I have found to determine if something
I see on eBay is fake, is to look at what other pieces
the person has sold. Be sure to look at all
COMPLETED auctions over the last month of so.
Become familiar with what pieces are being readily
reproduced and see if that seller has sold any of these
lately. Chances are, if they are buying
reproductions wholesale, they will have quite a few of
them. Also, look to see if they have sold any
other pieces that are exactly like the one you are
questioning. Lets face if, if they have sold
NM turtles in the last month, chances are that they are
buying them in quantity, and they are NEW! |
|
| Below
are some pictures of the REPRODUCTION! Please look
these over carefully. At this time, the most
obvious difference is the glaze. You can see from
the picture that the glaze is a glossy finish. The
original miniatures were made with a MATTE finish.
Keep in mind, however, that there may be a FEW glossy
originals out there. I have seen an original
"rose" colored piece that was what I would
consider a glossy finish. However, the majority of
ORIGINAL pieces are matte. Also keep in mind that
the manufactures of these fakes might figure out how to
produce a matte finish, at which time, this difference
would not be reliable to use in identification. |
