Sesquicentennial Oil Jar

 Sesquicentennial Oil Jar

In 1848, W. Nelson McCoy, along with his Uncle W. F. McCoy erected a small log building in Putnam, Ohio, now a part of Zanesville, Ohio. The equipment was primitive and the ware produced was rough but functional.  It was here in this small woodland shop that the McCoy Potteries were started.  That was 150 years ago.  1998 is the McCoy potteries' sesquincentennial year.  It brings with it the need to celebrate and commemorate it's beginning.

In February and March, the first sesquincentennial pottery piece was offered.  It  was a miniature of the original oil jar that was produced by the McCoy potteries many, many years ago. It was offered in cobalt blue, etched and decorated with gold on one side to read "Sesquicentennial McCoy, 1848-1998".

SignaturesNelson and Billie McCoy signed and dated each miniature oil jar that was purchased during the selling period.  To further enhance the beauty and value of this commemorative pottery piece, these cobalt blue miniature oil jars are never going to be offered again with the GOLD decoration.

Everyone who purchased one of the oil jars had the opportunity to be the very first to get an invitation to purchase the second sesquicentennial item, the Sesquicentennial Bear Bank, which was offered in April of 1998. This 2nd in a series piece was limited in production to 1500.
